Article Published: 31-May-2007

Scottish Widows has published its critical illness claims history this week providing data that shows between January 2000 and October 2006, the life office, settled over three and a half thousand critical illness claims costing a whopping £120 million.

The top five health issues, which account for 95% of all claims settled by Scottish Widows, are:-

Ø Cancer
Ø Heart Disease
Ø Stroke
Ø Multiple sclerosis
Ø Children’s cover

Cancer claims account for 61% of all claims.

The interim protection market director at Scottish Widows, Richard Jones, said “The need for financial protection has never been greater, yet lack of consumer confidence is contributing to people failing to invest in the valuable protection that they and their dependants need."
